Opportunities for creators in Web3
News about the Web3 Creator Economy
If you’re excited to be a part of the upgraded Creator Economy, welcome home!
Last weekend was crazy. So much so that I am struggling to find the right words to describe it.
I may not be able to do justice to the experience, but I’ll try to do my best.
I attended the BCrypt India Roadshow 2022 on the 16th of October in Delhi. I was a speaker at the event, and my talk was about what we talk about every Thursday here on Crypto Creatives — the Web 3 creator economy.
The annual C# Corner Conference had been running for a week before the final roadshow on Web 3.
I got to attend some keynotes on Business Intelligence and Consciousness and the Metaverse. It was a delight to attend a real-life event after a long break because of covid. I was happy to be back, out in the world, connecting with people.
The final day of the event was my session. I was nervous and worried about how much value my non-technical topic would have for techies.
And boy, I was wrong.
I got up early to proofread my deck and prepare for the day I had contemplated for weeks. Excitement, nervousness, and passion for the topic I was speaking on juxtaposed with the fun vibe of the event.
I started my talk by introducing myself and my journey as a creator. It was an excellent opportunity to mention what we’re building at Social.li, with creators being our core users.
The central theme of my presentation was the challenges creators face in the current market and how they can leverage the new Web 3 technologies to own and monetize their content fully.
But before we jumped into the juicy part, I touched upon the beginning of this new system of making a living by your passion. The audience had 40% creators, most of them studying and planning to transition into Web 3.
The audience made it a pleasurable experience and asked some interesting questions. It was a pleasure interacting with them even after the talk, which made me think about how important it is for non-creators to understand how creators work and why we need to understand it.
Why does everyone building in Web 3 needs to learn about the creator economy?
Ownership is an important ingredient of the new economy that’s been in the making. Owning the content, owning our audience, and owning a piece of the platform where we host content.
This ownership comes when the intermediary makes revenue from third-party content. The ownership comes from when a platform’s builders are also the engine’s creators. It could be a DAO or any decentralized platform where you directly reward your favorite creator for their good work.
“The ownership economy is the idea that in the future, all platforms will be built, operated, and owned by their users.”
— Li Jin
To benefit from the updated tech, creators need to understand the new ways they can leverage blockchain technology. Depending on their craft and community size, they can choose to launch their social tokens, mint an NFT collection, become a part of a DAO or create their platform using Lens Protocol or DeSo.
There are more options that strengthen the bond between a creator and their audience but also ensure the creator is rightfully incentivized. And to create that system, we need people who understand the nitty gritty of the creator economy.
We don’t want the replica of Web 2 platforms in Web 3; we want people to genuinely solve the problem of decentralization of wealth in the creative space.
Showcasing creators’ challenges will make us design products that solve these problems.
If you’re working on such a product for creators, we’d love to connect and help you understand this space.
Meeting the Community
The Web 3 energy was at its peak. Meeting my peers and people deeply involved in the space was refreshing and a rare sight for someone working remotely.
After my talk, I interacted with engineers, students, and experts working in different blockchains and departments. It got even better when I connected with leaders from across the globe and the Bcrypt and Csharp organizing community.
We completed the event with an after-party celebrating organizers and speakers. I was fortunate enough to not only be a part of such a celebration but also receive my speaker award at the end of the conference.
As an introvert, it was terrifying to be around people, yet I enjoyed and learned valuable things not just about the creator economy but also about networking and life—my gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and everyone who was part of this extravaganza.
I am looking forward to attending more such events and organizing some for our Crypto Creatives Members when we reach 5000 creators in our community :)
