GM, I’m Shreya. And this is Crypto Creatives. The best newsletter about the Crypto Creator Economy. If you’re new here, consider subscribing.
We’re at a very critical and ironic time of content creation.
So many creators, content, and platforms — that’s the gist of what’s happening in the creator economy today. The only new addition is Blockchain technology, yet it’s too nascent to comprehend.
Even with the tech and million ways to make a living as a creator, there’s something ironic about content creation.
The amount of content floating around is ludicrous; content overload has become a common issue among netizens. You can’t use your phone without getting bombarded by content.
Every day is a challenge to keep up with a new trend or to fight to keep your views high. And to ensure you’re not losing it to the new creators who join every day.
The only way to succeed without going through turmoil would be to stay relevant and connected. To remain relevant, you need to focus on the following.
Note: Interestingly, all these three are a significant part of being successful in the web 3 creator economy.
1. Prioritise Building a Community
The first step to staying relevant with your audience is building a network bigger than yourself and your product. People come to you for your content, but they remain because you have a highly engaged and well-connected community.
The community is the essence of everything you do in Web 3 and even Web 2. The comment sections of some youtube videos are better than the video itself. Some communities built by a creator are more valuable than the creator itself.
If you are providing value, your community will collect your genesis collection, buy anything you sell, and they’ll help you spread the word with their network, creating a solid Network Effect.
The community, through consensus, can replace any controllers or leaders. They can be converted into a DAO and can join the team of decision-makers.
This gives ownership to every community member other than the personal relationships they’ve established.
Building a fully functional community and helping each other thrive is the wisest way for any creator or project to thrive in today’s market.
2. Learn About Empathy
Empathy is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.
Your kindness will take you far when the internet is crowded with people bashing each other.
Giving a damn about your community is your responsibility as a creator. If you don’t care about them and their problems, they won’t care about you and yours.
Empathy allows you to see people closer and find solutions to their problems. But, it is also necessary to have compassion now when the competition is so steep, and people don’t know whom to trust.
Treating them with utmost care will make them trust and invest in you. This will
make new people join your community
keep existing community members engaged
When you care about your community, you solve real problems nobody else has noticed. Give people value and respect, and they’ll become loyal members.
“Empathy begins with understanding life from another person’s perspective. Nobody has an objective experience of reality. It’s all through our own individual prisms.”
— Sterling K. Brown
3. Make Them Stakeholders
Instead of selling assets, they share them with their community by creating a tokenized infrastructure where revenue is shared with every community member.
Community members are not just your fans and audience now. They become stakeholders. They become your VCs.
It’s challenging to make people do anything these days without incentives. But, when you make your community a part of your work, they contribute as if it was their own business.
Wealth sharing and selling can be massive for creators still figuring out ways to monetize themselves.
Taking part in someone’s success is possible by constantly contributing to the community and genuinely helping the network and its members. You may not have the tech skills or capital to donate, but you can always use your other skills to contribute and make an impact.
Support people who’ve been with you and give them a piece of what they helped you build
The ownership economy is the idea that in the future, all platforms will be built, operated, and owned by their users.
“If You Want to Go Fast, Go Alone. If You Want to Go Far, Go Together”
This African proverb hasn’t been more true than it is today. It’s what we creators do together.
People are getting smarter. They can see through the bullshit many creators are selling. We must make them believe in our vision to ensure they trust us and contribute to our economy.
And we can only do that when we are supporting each other!
