Hi, I'm Shreya. And this is Crypto Creatives. The best newsletter about the Crypto Creator Economy. If you're new here, consider subscribing.
In the previous posts of Crypto Creatives, we covered various case studies and use cases of the Web 3 creator economy.
We covered the issues with Web 2 creator platforms and how the world is moving towards the ownership economy.
Today we’re talking about some Web 3 alternatives to the most popular social media platforms we use daily.
1. Odysee
Web 3 version of YouTube, Odysee, was launched in December 2020.
In only a matter of years, it has managed to for its user base because of free speech.
The platform hosts video content on the LBRY network.
Since the content is stored on the blockchain, the creator’s channels can’t be deleted. There are no moderators, and the community takes care of the governance. Everyone who builds on the platform and watches the video is rewarded with tokens.
The best part is that there are no censorship and ads.
2. Supernovas
The Instagram of NFTs, Supernovas, is the platform for Web 3 natives highly invested in the NFT community.
The platform is built on the DeSo blockchain, known for its open-source social media infrastructure.
Supernovas is an excellent platform for NFT artists and collectors to engage and build a community of art lovers.
3. Mirror
Mirror.xyz is a blogging platform introduced as a decentralized version of Medium. Writers needed $WRITE tokens to become a member of the DAO to contribute to the protocol.
They had a voting system that would allow the community to select the contributors and the projects they wanted to read.
Writers were then allowed to crowdfund their projects through NFTs.
4. Diamond
Another big one from the DeSo blockchain, Diamond, is a decentralized Twitter alternative.
It is also an upgraded version of BitClout, which was in the limelight for stealing the identities of famous people and then selling their tokens.
Diamond, on the contrary, allows users to buy and sell tokens of their favorite influencers on the platform.
Readers can choose to reward tweets from people on the platform. The platform also allows creators to launch their coins.
Here’s my Diamond profile if you want to see how I used it.
5. Entre
Professions have been changed in Web 3, and so are the social networks. Entre calls itself — the web3 professional network.
It lets you earn while using the platform and is super helpful for professionals trying to network, hire or raise funds.
Luckily, it’s safe from the mobs of Linkedin and will most likely do so because it’s still relatively new.
The gamification and points systems make it more fun than Linkedin and can be utilized by creators trying to get the early advantage.
Lastly
There are hundreds of social networks emerging in the market. With open-source and blockchain tech, protocols like Lens and DeSo provide the infrastructure to anyone looking to build in this field.
This list is just the tip of the iceberg, and we’ll continue to share more decentralized platforms that benefit you as creators.
Until then, keep learning and keep sharing.
