What happens when blockchain meets existentialism?

Letters to Web3 explores the philosophical undercurrents of crypto, decentralization, and the digital future. Through essays grounded in philosophy, psychology, economics and more, we seek to understand not just what web3 is—but why it matters.

This isn’t another hype cycle newsletter. It’s a long-view exploration of the technology we’re shaping, and how that technology, in turn, shapes us.

About me

Hi, I’m Michael Macaulay.

I’m a writer at Edge & Node, helping build The Graph—a key data indexing protocol for web3. Before this, I worked as a software developer, technical writer, and even a YouTuber.

In a past life, I built a YouTube channel from scratch—only to watch it implode when the algorithm changed in 2018. That experience made one thing painfully clear: platforms own creators, not the other way around.

That same year, I discovered crypto—and I’ve been dedicated to building a freer, user-owned internet ever since.

Letters to Web3 is my attempt to bridge two lifelong passions: the future of technology and the timeless power of ideas.
